We are seeking an accomplished Senior / Medical Director – Rheumatology to provide medical leadership, strategic guidance, and support for clinical trials. This client-dedicated role involves overseeing Phase 1 to Phase 3 clinical trials for a pioneering biotech partner of our CRO client.
Our client is a leading global Clinical Research Organization (CRO) committed to advancing healthcare through innovative clinical research. With a worldwide presence, the company collaborates with top biotechnology and pharmaceutical R&D organizations to help bring transformative therapies to market.
This role can be based remotely from most EU locations, including the UK and Switzerland. It is a full-time position with standard working hours and a permanent employment contract in the country of residence. Occasional travel to the company's headquarters in Europe will be required.
Responsibilities

Provide expert medical oversight, monitoring, and leadership for rheumatology studies, ensuring adherence to study protocols, relevant SOPs, and regulatory requirements.

Perform medical monitoring of clinical trials, including medical review and analysis of adverse events. Collaborate with medical and safety teams to process Serious Adverse Events (SAEs).

At a senior level, lead, develop, or contribute to medical strategy, including the design, implementation, and medical monitoring of clinical trials.

Provide medical input and assessment in the development of key clinical trial documents, including protocols, clinical study reports (CSRs), case report forms (CRFs), safety reports, and risk management plans, ensuring the integration of the latest scientific insights. Contribute to site selection and review and approve clinical documentation.

Act as the chief medical liaison between the sponsor and internal departments, addressing concerns and resolving issues.

Oversee patient care within clinical trials, ensuring subject eligibility and safety. Provide guidance on ethical standards, protocol clarifications, and safety concerns, proactively identifying and addressing medical issues.

Serve as the medical point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. Support principal investigators as needed and collaborate with cross-functional study team members on medical issues and risk management.

Ensure all research activities comply with relevant SOPs, regulatory guidelines, and industry standards, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations.

Deliver therapeutic area and protocol-specific training to study teams.

Conduct data analysis and reporting, interpreting clinical trial data and preparing detailed reports on project feasibility, strategic insights, safety, and risk management. Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Requirements

MD or equivalent degree with board certification in Rheumatology and experience working in the field.

Experience working within the pharmaceutical industry.

Experience with clinical trials as an Principal Investigator or other relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry in clinical development or PhV.

Excellent leadership and team collaboration skills.

Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and GCP guidelines.

Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
